Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Principal Frontend Engineer who can lead the frontend guild, provide mentorship and vision for our frontend engineers, and drive the overall quality and productivity across the entire organisation.

The ideal candidate will have experience with building SPAs at scale, ideally both consumer-facing and business-facing, ensuring that large numbers of teams can work on the same codebase and product without much friction.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the frontend guild, including chairing weekly guild meetings, helping members drive initiatives, and providing feedback and guidance to these members
  • Manage priorities, agenda, backlog, and ensure the overall quality and delivery speed of our various SPAs, including architecture, performance metrics, code structure, tooling, and style guides
  • Report on the status of our frontend and its various initiatives to senior leadership, including the CTO and C-suite
  • Be a mentor to staff engineers and tech leads, helping them plan and architect solutions, and resolve problems they face
Requirements
  • 10+ years of professional experience writing SPAs applications in JavaScript, with experience in TypeScript
  • Strong experience with React, including current trends and best practices
  • Value simplicity and speed of iteration over complex design and scalability
  • Experience building websites developed by a large number of teams, with a focus on collaboration and communication
  • Experience with web app performance, monitoring, and optimization, as well as web architecture at scale (20krpm and above)
  • Experience with NodeJS and building web APIs, as well as frameworks such as Gatsby, NextJS, and Remix
  • Experience with frontend tooling and building pipelines in modern CI platforms, such as CircleCI, Travis, Gitlab CI, or Github Actions
About the Role

This is a senior leadership role within our engineering organization, requiring strong technical expertise, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a passion for driving innovation and growth.

The salary for this role is approximately £120,000 per annum, depending on location and experience.
