Job Summary

ENGINEERINGUK is seeking a highly skilled Data Centre Operations Engineer to join our team in North London. As a Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centre facilities, including electrical and mechanical equipment. You will work closely with our engineering team to provide troubleshooting and maintenance support, implement training exercises, and oversee day-to-day operations. This is a challenging role that requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with limited direct management.

  1. Provide electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and operations support to the engineering team.
  2. Implement and execute site-specific training exercises for electrical and mechanical equipment.
  3. Oversee day-to-day operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centre sites.
  4. Operate independently with limited direct management.
  5. Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities and perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
  6. Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related issues within the data centre region.
  7. Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).
  8. Create and deploy standard practices for Engineering Operations Technicians, Chief Engineers, and vendor support teams.
  9. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to by vendors and AWS staff.
  10. Respond to off-hour emergency calls related to data centres and help with the investigation, mitigation, and recovery of the issue(s).
Requirements
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Extensive industry-related experience with in-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure.
  3. NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
Preferred Qualifications
  1. BS7671 18th Edition.
  2. High/Low Voltage Authorised Person (AP) experience.
  3. Several years of experience in operations and on-call support for Data Centre facilities or Mission Critical Plants/Production facilities.
  4. Fundamental knowledge of network design and layout as well as low voltage (copper/fibre) cabling.
