Job Title: Education Specialist (SEND)

Join South Gloucestershire Council as an Education Specialist (SEND) and play a key role in improving outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Education Specialist (SEND) to join our team. As a key member of our SEND team, you will provide strategic leadership, support, and guidance to maintained schools and Multi-Academy Trust partners to ensure they meet the needs of pupils with SEND. Your expertise will inform policy development and activity across the council, and you will work closely with schools to evaluate the quality of provision and advise on best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and support to schools and settings to develop their provision for pupils with SEND
  • Work closely with Multi-Academy Trust partners to ensure they meet the needs of pupils with SEND
  • Inform policy development and activity across the council
  • Evaluate the quality of school provision and advise on best practice
  • Provide feedback to school leaders and support and challenge where necessary
  • Make adaptations to the curriculum to address the needs of pupils with SEND
  • Provide advice to school staff, SENDCos, and school leaders on meeting the needs of pupils with SEND
Requirements

We are looking for an experienced Education Specialist (SEND) with a thorough knowledge of the Local Authority's schools' duties around meeting the needs of pupils with SEND, including relevant educational legislation about SEND and safeguarding. You will have the ability to judge the quality of education, including adaptive approaches for SEND, and have up-to-date knowledge of special educational needs, including social, emotional, and mental health needs, and their link to pupil behaviour.
