We are seeking an exceptional Technical Manager to join our Manchester-based team, who can provide strategic leadership and vision for our engineering department.

The role offers a competitive salary of £85,000 per annum, a 4-day working week, flexible start/finish, bonus (20%), healthcare, death in service and more.

As a leading provider of services to the defence sector, we offer a wide range of services, including design, manufacture, MRO and test of safety-critical electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical components.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing engineering resources, planning capacity, mentoring the team, solving complex problems and acting as the interface between engineering and other key departments.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Leading all engineering projects from inception to successful completion
  • Acting as Technical Authority, ensuring each stage of project receives adequate challenge, review and signature
  • Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the engineering team, ensuring efficient resource utilisation and the successful delivery of engineering and project objectives
  • Strategically planning short- and long-term workload, balancing priorities to meet operational and project deadlines
  • Cultivating a culture of high performance and accountability within the engineering team
  • Quickly providing effective solutions to engineering challenges, ensuring minimal disruption to operations
  • Maintaining close liaison with Operations and Sales teams to align engineering activities with overall business goals
  • Serving as the primary engineering contact for customers, ensuring requirements are fully understood and delivered

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree or equivalent in Electrical, Electronics or Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience of Engineering Management or Technical Management in a process-driven, safety-critical environment
  • A strong technical mindset, ideally with knowledge of the Defence/Aerospace industry
  • Results-oriented, capable of planning and delivering projects within set deadlines
  • Proven leadership skills, with a track record of optimising team performance and successfully managing engineering projects
  • Strong relationship management skills, able to engage, negotiate and influence key stakeholders and suppliers
  • Experience managing project budgets with a commercially astute approach
  • Proficiency in project management software, alongside strong experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
