Job Summary

We are seeking an exceptional individual to fill the role of Training Programme Director for Trauma and Orthopaedics in London. This is a 1 PA Training Programme Director vacancy.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Postgraduate Dean to lead the delivery of various functions within the specialty, aligned to the NHS England mandate. They will ensure that both national standards, determined by the Royal College, and guidelines and standards established within London are met.

The Programme Director will oversee the Specialty's Regional Training Programme, handle specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns, and be responsible for recruitment to training posts and programmes. They will also manage postgraduate programme management, including assessments, progression, rotations, support, and remediation.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of training across the region and strong leadership and communication skills. They will be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Fellowship of College/Faculty, professional association, and/or body
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development

Desirable

  • Qualification such as PG Cert diploma or Master of Medical Education

Employment/Experience

Essential

  • Working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context
  • Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi-professional team
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery of service and education
  • Understanding of developments involving the relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies related to NHS organisations
  • Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda
  • Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection, and E&D in the last 3 years
  • Active involvement in and up to date with appraisal process
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures, and processes, including understanding workforce matters
  • Applicants who are doctors require a licence to practice

Desirable

  • Previous or current appointment as leader in healthcare education
  • Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education
  • Understanding of current health and social care and education policy
