We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Bacteriology Research Scientist to join our Bacteriology department at our Weybridge site. This is an exciting opportunity for a junior scientist to develop their skills and contribute to various projects in bacteriology.
Job Summary
This full-time position involves working in a busy team environment, conducting bacteriological tests, and providing scientific expertise for various projects. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to receive training in several aspects of the work and will be expected to deliver results under tight deadlines.
Main Responsibilities
- Cultivating different organisms on specialist media from biological samples.
- Performing phenotypic tests, including serological identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Assisting with sample collection from farm animal premises, feed mills, abattoirs, and hatcheries.
- Producing and standardizing reagents for surveillance projects and international trade assays.
- Testing disinfectants' efficacy.
- Molecular tests, including antimicrobial resistance gene detection by PCR or WGS approaches.
- Basic immunology, including cell counting and immunoassay of cytokines.
- Presentation of data in tabular or graphical formats.
- Responsibility as a room officer for a laboratory.
- Working to quality and safety standards.
Requirements
- Essential scientific skills include basic microbiology and/or immunology knowledge.
- Experience in using computer software, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to organize own work and time.
- An interest in the food animal production sector.
Qualifications
A-Levels or equivalent in science-related subjects are required.
Salary and Benefits
