Transport Manager Job Description

MRD Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Transport Manager to join our Logistics client in East Kilbride. As a key member of the transport team, you will work closely with operational leadership, drivers, and quality assurance teams to ensure the smooth and efficient running of our busy operation.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the management of end-to-end transport requirements, ensuring compliance with legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Maximize the performance of the operation by identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing effective solutions.
  • Proactively manage health and safety, ensuring employee wellbeing and adherence to Company guidelines.
  • Manage and maintain the Transport Fleet, ensuring all associated operations are compliant and meet legal requirements.
  • Coordinate the planning of routes and schedules, ensuring collections and deliveries reach their destinations safely, on time, and in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure all drivers report and record vehicle defects, maintaining a high level of vehicle maintenance and compliance.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to drive forward continuous improvement initiatives and foster an environment of enhanced productivity.
  • Continuously review proposed and forthcoming changes to legislation and best practice, ensuring the Transport Fleet remains compliant and efficient.
  • Manage budget and KPI performance targets, identifying opportunities to deliver change initiatives and improve performance.
  • Effectively manage time-sensitive deliveries and collections, meeting critical schedules and customer expectations.
Requirements:
  • Hold a Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)
  • Proven Transport Manager with experience of managing people and customers
  • Professional and efficient approach to challenging situations
  • Experience in successful people management
  • Detailed understanding of relevant legislation in transport and health & safety
  • Ability to prioritize, manage a varied workload, and support decision-making
  • Confidence in your own convictions
