About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Journalist to join our team at BBC News NI. As a Senior Journalist, you will be responsible for leading daily production meetings, assigning tasks to journalists, reporters, and researchers, and contributing to the production of original journalism.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead daily production meetings and assign tasks to team members
  • Commission output for production areas and deploy resources effectively
  • Motivate teams to think creatively and respond quickly to breaking news
  • Contribute to the production of original journalism
  • Provide forward planning and production support
  • Deal with complex legal and editorial issues
  • Influence BBC News NI's news agenda and advise output editors on key issues
  • Work mostly at base but on location as required
  • Support junior staff members to help them grow and develop in their role

Requirements

  • Extensive editorial experience and strong news judgment
  • Experience in managing people and good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Resilience and a highly-motivated self-starter
  • Understanding of how audiences operate in the digital space
  • Sound knowledge of politics, current affairs, and ongoing issues in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and further afield
  • Ability to write clear and concise copy for all outlets
