Senior Lecturer in Modern East Asian History

The University of Bristol seeks a Senior Lecturer in Modern East Asian History to contribute to high-quality and research-led teaching within the Department of History. The successful applicant will be a core member of the Hong Kong History Centre team, with a track record of teaching history at undergraduate level and postgraduate supervision.

The role of Senior Lecturer in Modern East Asian History is an open-ended position, encompassing research, education, and administrative responsibilities. The postholder will be supported to develop their research programme, including actively seeking opportunities to fund their research and publish their research findings.

Key responsibilities include contributing to teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, as well as doctoral supervision. The postholder will also support the activities of the School through undertaking administrative roles as directed by the Head of School.

Applicants should have a track record of publication relating to, or demonstrable commitment to, researching Hong Kong in a global context. A research and teaching focus in the history of economy, technology, environment, science, or medicine is desirable, complementing existing expertise in the Hong Kong History Centre and aligning with areas of international excellence within the department and wider faculty.

Applicants are required to include two examples of article-length written work.
