About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled School Maintenance Assistant to join our team at a large, vibrant school located in the Dagenham area. This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on and has a passion for maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Management: Opening up and locking up the site, setting the alarm, and conducting weekly fire alarm checks to ensure a secure environment for students and staff.
  • Maintenance and Repairs: Performing general repairs and maintenance tasks within the school, including unblocking sinks and toilets, fixing door and window handles, and carrying out painting and decorating tasks as needed.
  • Health and Safety: Conducting daily health and safety checks to ensure a secure environment for students and staff, and overseeing contractors on site to ensure work is completed to standards.
  • Porterage and Grounds Maintenance: Providing porterage services, moving furniture, and delivering parcels around the building, as well as maintaining the school grounds and performing all other duties as required.
Requirements
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience in a caretaker or maintenance role is preferred.
  • Physical Abilities: Ability to perform physical tasks and handle various handyperson duties.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of health and safety regulations, good organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Personal Qualities: Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.
