About the Role

This is a fixed term post, working within the outpatient eating disorder service. The post holder will work alongside a Consultant Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders, supported by a specialist Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).

The role offers an opportunity to develop knowledge, skills, and experience in the assessment and management of eating disorders across the full spectrum of diagnoses and severity, and in the delivery of specialist psychological therapies for eating disorders.

As an Eating Disorder Specialist Physician, you will provide day-to-day psychiatric and medical assessment and management of adults with eating disorders receiving care in the outpatient service. Leadership of MDT risk assessment and management is central to the role. You will contribute to the weekly outpatient meeting and clinical forum, and the twice-weekly assessment meeting.

You will also contribute to Mental Health Act (MHA) work, including the preparation of reports, with supervision from the Consultant. Additionally, you will provide occasional medical cover for other doctors across the service (inpatient, day patient, outpatient), giving experience of the full spectrum of eating disorder presentations and the broad range of treatment modalities available.

Vincent Square Eating Disorder Service is an all-age Eating Disorder Service with a vibrant and skilled multidisciplinary team working across a variety of evidence-based treatment pathways targeted to the specific needs of different groups of patients. You will have the opportunity to work with committed, innovative, and compassionate colleagues, delivering high-quality care and treatment at an exciting time of significant investment and expansion of services.

Clinical Duties
  1. To provide psychiatric and medical assessments of adults referred to the eating disorder service, including prescribing and monitoring medication and supporting delivery of services according to NICE guidelines policies.
  2. To undertake physical examinations and order investigations as needed.
  3. The post-holder will join other members of the team to provide psychiatric input including assessment and treatment of comorbid mental health disorders.
  4. To provide medical and psychiatric review of outpatients.
  5. To contribute to the collection of Clinical Outcome data across the service.
  6. To liaise with statutory and non-statutory agencies concerning the treatment and management of patients.
  7. Consultation to other members of the multidisciplinary team, including with respect to the management of risk.
  8. Actively participate in weekly MDT meetings.
  9. Good understanding of Clinical Governance requirements and ensuring the service meets standards.
  10. Preparing assessment reports and other clinical documentation and correspondence as necessary, in accordance with trust policy.
  11. Liaison input to medical wards as needed and sustain good working relationships and effective MEED pathways with acute hospitals in our catchment area.
  12. To provide cross cover with medical colleagues within the ED service.
Clinical Audit and Research
  1. To contribute to audit and quality improvement projects.
  2. To contribute to clinical outcome evaluation within the service.
  3. To contribute to the ongoing development of evidence-generating practice within the service.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of approximately £83,995 per annum, depending on your experience. You will also be entitled to a generous benefits package, including annual leave, pension scheme, and access to training and development opportunities.
