Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for supporting the development of NatureScot's evidence base and advice on marine fisheries management policy and wider plans and strategies.

You will work closely with colleagues to contribute to the corporate plan outcomes relevant to nature recovery, climate, and sustainable use.

Key tasks will include:

  • Developing our evidence base through the review or synthesis of research publications
  • Contributing to the development of marine fisheries guidance or advice outputs
  • Supporting the commissioning, management, and/or participation in relevant research activities
  • Contributing to the development of marine fisheries content through the staff intranet and the NatureScot website
  • Participating in Activity meetings, training events, and input into the preparation, monitoring, and delivery of business plan targets

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A sound understanding and relevant experience of marine fisheries, their ecology, and their management - particularly in Scotland/UK
  • An understanding of marine fisheries interactions with marine biodiversity
  • An understanding of conservation and marine planning legislation relevant to Scotland's seas
  • A working knowledge/experience of GIS
  • An understanding of the Scottish fishing industry and issues, and preferably practical experience in assessing and analyzing fishing activity information
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to review complex, technical information and convey that clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Proven ability to plan and manage workloads, effectively balance competing priorities, and meet multiple deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills to enable effective representation to a variety of stakeholders
  • A degree or equivalent in a relevant natural science, such as zoology, biology, ecology, fisheries, or environmental science, plus relevant post-graduate experience

Prerequisites:

To be eligible for this role, you must:

  • Have the right to work in the UK and be living in the UK
  • Be willing to undertake a Disclosure Scotland application
  • Have a desirable skill in Gaelic language, although it is not a prerequisite
