Freedown Food, a leading importer, wholesaler, and home consumer marketplace for exceptional meat, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Food Safety and Compliance Specialist to oversee all aspects of food safety and compliance across the company.

Job Summary

This role offers a dynamic opportunity for an experienced professional to take ownership of the food safety operations and compliance across the entire business. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring adherence to food safety regulations, operational protocols, and industry best practices, driving continuous improvement in safety, compliance, and product quality.

Main Responsibilities
  • Food Safety and Compliance: Lead and enforce food safety policies and procedures across all company operations, including the cutting plant, cold storage, warehouse, and distribution channels.
  • Drive the implementation and ongoing management of HACCP systems, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and regulations at all stages of production, handling, and distribution.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs for cutting plant staff to ensure they are fully informed about food safety protocols, equipment handling, hygiene practices, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections across all facilities to ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health regulations, with documented follow-up actions and improvements.
  • Oversee microbiological testing to validate cleaning protocols, product safety, and operational standards.
  • Stay informed of updates and changes to food safety legislation, industry standards, and best practices, ensuring that the company remains fully compliant with local and international regulations.
  • Oversee product labelling, ensuring all items are following company policies and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Food Safety Level 4, Proven experience in managing food safety and compliance in food manufacturing; meat industry is a preferred, but other industries will be considered.
  • Skills: Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and industry best practices. Proficiency in the EU food laws is a plus. Experience in conducting microbiological testing, internal audits, and managing traceability systems. Expertise in product labelling requirements, supplier management, and customer compliance.
  • Personal Qualities: Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to influence and enforce compliance across multiple departments without direct authority.
