Job Description

At McLaren, we're pushing the boundaries of innovation and excellence in the world of high-performance sports. As an Electrical Systems Apprentice, you'll play a vital role in our mission to set the standard for high-performance in sport.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop as an Electrical Technician to provide full life-cycle design technical support and maintenance for all aspects of the high complexity, low volume bespoke electronic systems used for the Formula 1 racing programme.
  • Work alongside experienced staff to gain hands-on experience and formal training in the manufacture and maintenance of on and off-car electrical and electronic systems.
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure the delivery of high-quality work that meets the required standards.
  • Participate in regular training and development to enhance your skills and knowledge in electronic systems.
  • Contribute to the preparation for the peak winter period, including new test equipment preparation.
  • Develop your ability to interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and electronic design documents.
  • Learn to work with harness systems containing many wires/contacts and mixed construction requirements.
  • Escalate technical and design issues, as well as reliability and quality concerns, to your manager.
  • Support colleagues in monitoring third-party supplier quality levels through specialized electrical and electronic inspection and component testing.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and adhere to all HSE and COSHH constraints for materials and equipment.
Requirements
  • 5 GCSE qualifications of grade 4/C or above, including maths, English, and Science.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience in a team-oriented environment.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics would be advantageous.
  • Experience in the assembly of small parts would be advantageous.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office.

McLaren Racing is based at the iconic McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) near Woking.
