We are seeking highly motivated undergraduate students to join our Research & Development function on a 12-month placement. As part of our Analytical Development team, you will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art mass spectrometry equipment and techniques, enhancing your skills in data analysis, scripting, and process automation.

Throughout your placement, you will work closely with experienced scientists, contribute to innovative research projects, and develop a deeper understanding of the applications of analytical chemistry in industry. You will also have the opportunity to design and plan a research project to address an analytical challenge or question using practical skills and specialized knowledge.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, validate, and test automated workflows for mass-spectrometry-based non-targeted analysis in R&D projects
  • Design programs for analyzing and interpreting complex spectral data
  • Collaborate with scientists in planning, designing, and conducting laboratory experiments for R&D projects
  • Develop and/or optimize analytical methods for measuring constituents of modern oral products

About Our Undergraduate Placement Scheme

We invest significantly in Research and Development to deliver innovations that satisfy or anticipate consumer needs and generate growth for the business. Our extensive scientific research program spans a broad spectrum of scientific fields, including molecular biology, human biology, toxicology, chemistry, biomedical sciences, psychology, neuroscience, sensorial science, data science, computer science, product design, and engineering disciplines.

As part of our scheme, you will be partnered with a mentor, have regular reviews with your Line Manager, and work on projects that impact the business. Our Placement Team provides training and development throughout the placement, including sessions for onboarding, presentation skills, critical thinking, scientific poster presentations, and 'speed networking' with senior management.

Cultivate your independent thinking and problem-solving skills while working in and contributing to a team. Cross-functional/department working and participation in other research activities are also encouraged, where appropriate. Previous work experience in a practical 'hands-on' role is useful but not essential.
