Laundry Technician Post

Main Duties of the Job
The Laundry Technician (Mechanical/Electrical) will carry out maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on all plant equipment with minimum supervision.
They will be responsible for maintaining laundry process equipment and completing reactive and planned maintenance on complex, high-value specialist engineering equipment.
The job holder will have knowledge of industrial equipment to enable efficient maintenance of this equipment as required, along with experience of working in a laundry or similar environment.

Job Responsibilities
The post holder will be required to:
- Liaise and work with other trades/disciplines, including external agencies (contractors), calling them out when required.
- Participate fully in the Labour Management Scheme, completing timesheets and job dockets, and providing all relevant information.
- Interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications to instruct and advise others.
- Work efficiently with minimum supervision.
- Supervise contractors and sign service sheets as and when required.
- Manage own workload.
Maintenance Responsibilities
- Install and maintain energy conservation devices as instructed.
- Diagnose and repair faults on complex electrical or mechanical services, engineering plant, and equipment, dealing with issues as they arise and passing on knowledge to others.
- Monitor temperatures using handheld data collection devices, diagnose faults, recalibrate, and carry out repairs to steam gauges, boiler controls, and washers, sterilizers, and washer disinfectors.
- Manufacture, assemble, erect, and install new specialist electrical or mechanical controls as required.
- Diagnose and repair faults on electronic or mechanical equipment using fine tools when required, soldering iron, fine screwdrivers.
- Work on electrical distribution systems, including emergency standby, UPS, and generation.
- Carry out installation, repairs, and planned preventative maintenance on the control systems for laundry machinery, steam raising plant, heating systems, motors, pumps, heat recovery, ventilation systems, sterilizers, washer disinfectors, and fire alarms.
- Carry out statutory inspections and testing on engineering plant and equipment and complete necessary documentation.
- Undertake non-complex tasks, including fault finding of other trades.
- Install heavy engineering plant using lifting equipment in compliance with Trust policies.
- Use own initiative, knowledge, and experience when quantifying and installing specialist electrical services, engineering plant, and equipment in accordance with current guidance and legislation.
- Use specialist software to program/reprogram for the control of laundry and similar equipment.
- Participate in the departments Equipment Release and Permit to Work Systems.
- Drive Trust vehicles as and when required.
- The hours of work are 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The shifts are 6am-2pm, 8am-4pm, and 10am-6pm.
- From time to time, you will be expected to work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.
- The post holder may be expected to participate in the emergency on-call team to ensure emergency repairs are completed outside of normal working hours, including repairs within the hospital.
- Price and raise requisitions for materials and equipment in accordance with standing financial instructions.
- Achieve acceptable standards of workmanship and productivity.
- Report performance issues relating to specialist electrical/mechanical services, engineering plant equipment to the Laundry Management Team.
- Report and manage levels of non-stock items in sub-stores.
Communications and Relationships
The post holder will be able to communicate effectively in relation to complex technical issues, translating technical information to non-technical staff to aid decisions regarding safety.
They will utilize written and/or verbal communication methods to ensure standards of service delivery are maintained and the service users are fully informed of works affecting their work areas.
The post holder will be required to liaise and work with other trades/disciplines, including external agencies (contractors).
The post holder will be expected to communicate regularly with estates/laundry staff and senior management.
The post holder will be required to carry Trust communication devices (pagers, DECT phone, handheld device for work provision, etc.) to facilitate.
The post holder will be able to provide training, technical advice, and support to other Trust employees.
Analytical and Judgmental Skills
Diagnose and repair faults on complex electrical/mechanical services, engineering plant, and equipment, dealing with new situations as they arise and passing on knowledge to others.
The post holder will be required to understand, interpret situations such as diagnose and repair faults on electrical or mechanical services, engineering plant, and equipment, dealing with repairs and judging economical repair and passing on knowledge to others.
- Interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications to instruct contractors and advise others of what the solution is, as well as using them to determine the issue.
- Repairs to lifts, including emergency evacuation of persons in accordance with Health & Safety requirements if appropriate.
- Monitor temperatures using handheld data collection devices, using information for such devices to diagnose faults, recalibrate, and carry out repairs to steam gauges and boiler controls.
- Undertake non-complex tasks, including fault finding outside own specialism.
- The laundry is an active and busy process plant; the post holder must be able to analyze a range of equipment.
Planning and Organisational Skills
- The post holder shall be required to organize and implement a range of tasks such as planned maintenance and repairs which would affect the service.
- The post holder will be required to plan and coordinate the works required with different estates service lines and disciplines, as well as understanding the implication on the linen service.
- Work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required by management.
- Manage own workload, plan, and respond efficiently to the demands of the service.
- Plan, organize, and carry out installation, repairs, and planned preventative maintenance on the control systems for laundry machinery, steam raising plant, heating systems, motors, pumps, heat recovery, ventilation systems, and fire alarms.
- Plan, organize, and carry out statutory inspections and testing on specialist electrical services, engineering plant, and equipment and complete necessary documentation.
Physical Skills
Due to the nature of the intricate works on fine systems, the post holder must have the ability to diagnose and repair faults on electronic or mechanical equipment by manipulation of tools, soldering iron, fine screwdrivers.
The post holder must be able to achieve high standards of workmanship and productivity with limited supervision.
High levels of attention to detail are required to enable works to be completed promptly and efficiently.
The post holder will be required to lift heavy tools and equipment on occasion, with suitable lifting equipment where necessary.
