About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance Engineer to join our team at Recruiterwise. As a key member of our Network Management Team, you will be responsible for leading and managing a range of technical projects, initiatives, and work packages that comply with relevant legislation and help achieve the Council's corporate aims and objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain highways, including defect repairs, gully cleansing and drainage improvement programs, and winter maintenance, including gritting.
  • Be responsible for contracts relating to the above workstreams.
  • Manage contracts relating to the above workstreams.
  • Report on technical engineering, performance, quality, and commercial checks and assessments.
  • Keep asset management information up to date.
  • Perform engineering duties, such as measurement, setting out, materials, and specifications, traffic management, and GMRAPS permitting.
  • Lead on project communication with all stakeholders, including residents, businesses, TfGM, and elected members.
  • Undertake traffic engineering/highway design feasibility studies when required.
  • Work with other Council sections and developers to ensure a joined-up approach to traffic management across the city.
  • Manage budgets and projects, including financial and procurement accountability.
  • Comply with CDM requirements and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Provide technical supervision, support, and guidance to junior members of staff.
  • Lead on the technical delivery/approval of highway design and traffic engineering projects.
Requirements
  • Significant knowledge and experience of undertaking a similar position within the industry, gained within either a Local Authority, Consultancy, or the Private sector.
  • Ability to lead and manage a range of technical projects, initiatives, and work packages.
  • Strong technical knowledge of highway maintenance, design, and engineering.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and elected members.
  • Strong budgeting and financial management skills.
  • Ability to comply with CDM requirements and Health and Safety legislation.
