Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy Service on the Bank with NHS Professionals. The successful candidate will be based in the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals SLT service, working as a member of the acute team to provide a service to individuals with communication and/or swallowing problems, covering wards at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Northern General Hospital, and Western Park.

Main Responsibilities

  • To conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' communication and swallowing abilities, seeking advice as necessary.
  • To develop and implement effective care plans based on best practice.
  • To stay up-to-date with relevant training and development opportunities to maintain and enhance specialist skills and knowledge.
  • To develop a working knowledge of relevant procedures, including Working with Vulnerable Adults and other legal frameworks in line with government policy.
  • To demonstrate highly developed auditory, perceptual, and analytical skills in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients/clients.
  • To provide specialist Speech and Language Therapy treatment to a defined caseload of adult patients with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • To offer advice and training to other professionals, patients, carers, and families regarding the management and care of patients with communication disorders and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties.
  • To adapt practice to meet individual patients' needs.
  • To supervise the work of assistants and volunteers.
