Ecologist Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Ecologist to join our Water and Environment team at Waterman Aspen. As an Ecologist, you will play a key role in conducting and coordinating protected species surveys, invasive species surveys, and habitat assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and coordinate protected species surveys, including bats, great crested newts, and badgers
  • Conduct invasive species surveys and habitat assessments
  • Develop and implement invasive species management plans
  • Produce clear and precise ecological reports, including species-specific survey reports and habitat assessments
  • Coordinate field surveys, manage multiple survey teams, and ensure fieldwork is delivered to a high standard within specified timelines

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in conducting and coordinating protected species surveys
  • Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with UK Habitat Classification and Condition surveys
  • Experience with advanced survey methods, such as camera trapping, emergence surveys, or acoustic monitoring for specific species
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear and precise ecological reports
  • Experience coordinating field surveys and managing multiple survey teams

Desirable:

  • Holding relevant protected species licenses
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as CIEEM, or working towards chartership
  • Experience in developing and implementing invasive species management plans
