About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Compliance and Health and Safety Manager to join our team at Barhale. As a key member of our HSEQ team, you will play a critical role in supporting our projects to meet the requirements of our Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Management systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Promote Occupational Health & Wellbeing:
    • Support the provision of Health & Wellbeing initiatives within the business, working closely with the Head of HSEQ and HSEQ Director.
    • Communicate and promote monthly themes to ensure a culture of health and wellbeing.
    • Promote the value of occupational health at a regional level, ensuring a positive impact on our employees' health and wellbeing.
    • Line manage HSEQ Advisors, providing guidance and support for their professional development.
    • Support site teams in achieving our Be Right First Time initiatives and monitoring Quality Control as defined by the HSEQ Systems & Audit Manager.
  2. HSEQ Communications & HSE Statistics:
    • Contribute to company-level HSEQ communications, ensuring regional teams are informed and engaged.
    • Produce and communicate HSEQ alerts following incidents and poor-quality standards, promoting learning and prevention.
    • Support the Head of HSEQ in maintaining HSE performance statistics, providing regular updates to management.
    • Deliver awareness training and lead site stand-downs, ensuring a culture of safety and quality.
  3. HSEQ Monitoring:
    • Conduct regular visits to support HSEQ Advisors in their area of responsibility.
    • Conduct HSEQ Detailed Inspections monthly, working closely with the Head of HSEQ and HSEQ Director to set targets.
    • Monitor HSEQ Advisor inspections, ensuring findings are closed out promptly and effectively.
    • Agree on Advisor monthly inspection targets, monitoring compliance and performance.
  4. Facilities Management at Company Premises:
    • Provide management support for Facilities Managers at regional company premises on HSE-related issues and provisions.
    • Monitor HSE standards at regional company premises, ensuring compliance with legal obligations.

Requirements:

  • NEBOSH general certificate or equivalent as a minimum, with IOSH certification desirable.
  • Extensive HSEQ experience within a civil engineering environment, with experience in the rail sector an advantage.
  • Sound knowledge of quality controls associated with company work activities.
  • High standard of written English and excellent communication skills.
  • Effective use of MS Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong presentation and report-writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex information effectively.
  • CSCS Safety Professional card.
  • Able to work as a member of a team, with the ability to work alone to tight deadlines as required.
  • Pride in setting high-quality standards, with attention to detail.
  • Passion for Health, Safety, Environment & Quality.
