Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Intensive Care Consultant to join our team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and leading the management of our Intensive Care Unit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide non-residential cover of emergency ITU, supervising a dedicated resident anaesthetist.
  • Lead assessments of the deteriorating patient for emergency admission to the Intensive Care Unit.
  • Participate in clinical audit, governance, and quality improvement.
  • Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning.
  • Actively participate in continuing medical education.
Requirements
  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
  • FICM or an equivalent qualification.
  • FRCA or an equivalent appropriate higher anaesthetic qualification.
  • Higher Postgraduate professional qualifications in research or Education.
Desirable Skills
  • ICM recognised formal training in intensive care medicine or equivalent.
  • Experience in the management of Trauma and other surgical emergencies.
  • Broad exposure to anaesthesia particularly for laparoscopic surgery, emergency surgical and obstetric emergencies.
  • Evidence of involvement and experience in audit.
  • Knowledge of and interest in medical education.
Personal Qualities
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to communicate effectively.
  • Experience of leading a clinical team.
  • Experience of supervision of junior medical staff and relevant staff in other disciplines & GMC recognised training in Educational & clinical supervision.
  • Attendance at an advanced communication skills course.
  • Evidence of significant Leadership roles, training or abilities.
