Ecologist Assistant Job Description

CSA Environmental is a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy with a team of over 35 ecologists. We work with conservation bodies, councils, infrastructure providers, and private landowners to deliver high-quality work and maintain the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with UK Habitat Classification surveys and protected species surveys for various species, including badgers, bats, dormice, otter, water vole, birds, reptiles, and great crested newts.
  • Coordinate survey work, including preparation and maintenance of the latest survey equipment and technology.
  • Use QGIS and other graphics packages to prepare high-quality technical drawings, such as Biodiversity Net Gain metrics.
  • Contribute to survey reports, mitigation strategies, Habitat Management and Monitoring Plans, and other relevant documents.
Requirements:
  • Relevant ecology or biology degree (preferably 2:1 or above).
  • Interest in UK-based ecology and knowledge of wildlife legislation.
  • Evidence of developing ecological field skills.
  • Excellent written English and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Forward thinking, with a keen interest in staying up-to-date with the latest survey techniques.
