Decontamination Technician

Job Summary
The Decontamination Technician will be responsible for the safe sterilisation and disposal of waste produced by the pathology laboratory at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The post holder will work closely with the pathology laboratory staff to load the sterilisers, collect CAT 3 waste, run steriliser cycles, and escalate any cycle failures.
The role requires adherence to regulations and Standard Operating Procedures to ensure an effective and compliant service is delivered.
Main Duties
The main duties of the job will be within the pathology decontamination area, with secondary responsibilities in sterile services, Endoscopy decontamination, and theatre logistics.
The post holder will be required to work in accordance with Departmental & National Policy, Standard Operating Procedures, and Quality Management Systems to provide a responsive service.

Person Specification
- Education to GCSE or equivalent, including Maths and English
- Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously
- Knowledge of infection control, health & safety, and COSHH
Key Responsibilities
- Attend training courses and participate in training strategies to maintain knowledge and skills
- Support departmental needs to ensure monitoring, maintenance, and servicing requirements of endoscopes and theatre instruments
- Ensure routine tests are undertaken and recorded in accordance with Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules, Quality Standards, and Guidance
