Job Title: Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker to join our team at Apple Orchard. As a Senior Residential Childcare Support Worker, you will play a key role in ensuring the care and welfare of each child in the home, as well as their individual developmental needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the care and welfare of each child in the home, ensuring their individual developmental needs are met.
  • Plan and prepare activities that meet the young people's needs and stimulate their learning and integration within the home.
  • Keep well-informed of legislation, guidelines, and policies to ensure the Children's Act, Children's homes regulations, and the national minimum standards are met at all times.
  • Support and lead all Residential Support Workers, ensuring all staff comply with policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
  • Observe and assess young people's progress, keeping accurate records of their achievements, behavior, and important events in their lives.
  • Work with local authorities and placing authorities to ensure the care the young people receive is outstanding.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with parents/carers, supporting young people's learning and development and valuing parental involvement where appropriate.
  • Be flexible within working practices, undertaking domestic tasks within the home, including preparation of meals, cleaning, shopping, etc.
  • Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure the philosophy behind the home is fulfilled, raising any concerns to the Registered Manager accordingly.
  • Keep clear and legible records regarding the young people, ensuring entries are legible, clearly expressed, non-stigmatising, and distinguished as far as possible between fact, opinion, and third-party information.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience of working with teenage boys or challenging behavior and a willingness to further develop skills.
  • Hold a driving license and have access to a vehicle, due to the rural location of our services.
  • Hold a Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or equivalent – or be willing to work towards a required qualification.
  • Be willing to engage the young people in a wide range of activities and support them through their time at Apple Orchard, guiding them towards Independence and Adulthood.
  • Be flexible with working hours and able to work a mixture of days, evenings, and weekends, with shift work although having every other weekend off.
  • Be able to challenge unacceptable behavior, provide firm boundaries, and provide care that meets the needs of the individual.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and follow delegated tasks and handovers.
  • Be able to maintain policies and procedures and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Have the ability to engage and listen.
