Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Acute Medicine team at West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. As a Senior Clinical Practitioner, you will be responsible for practicing as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner using a high degree of autonomy and complex decision-making skills to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement, manage, and evaluate clinical nursing and medical care in the management of patients.

You will work in partnership with patients, families, and carers to support them in proactively managing their wellbeing and life. Additionally, you will participate in audit, clinical governance, and other clinical meetings where the outcomes and recommendations have the potential to improve the quality of care.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, be visionary, motivated, approachable, receptive, and assertive. They will also demonstrate a flexible approach to working hours and duties.

About Us

We are a busy, friendly, rural NHS Trust providing high-quality care and compassion to over a quarter of a million people across west Suffolk. We care for, treat, and support people in hospital, at home, and in various community settings.

The West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds provides acute and secondary care services, including emergency department, maternity and neonatal services, day surgery unit, eye treatment centre, Macmillan unit, and children's ward. It has 500+ beds and is a partner teaching hospital of the University of Cambridge.

As a Senior Clinical Practitioner, you will be part of a multi-professional team, exchanging ideas and providing support to colleagues. You will present information to individuals and groups as required, using appropriate resources to problem-solve, analyse, compare, and interpret complex information before making a decision.

Key Responsibilities

Initiate, evaluate, and modify a range of interventions which may include prescribing medicines, therapies, lifestyle advice, and care. Exercise professional judgement to manage risk appropriately, especially where there may be complex and unpredictable events and supporting teams to do likewise to ensure safety of individuals, families, and carers. Work in conjunction with the MDT to clearly define values, direction, and policies impacting upon care.

Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a Registered healthcare professional qualification, evidence of continuing professional development, and a Level 6 first-level degree. They will also be willing to work towards a recognised advanced practice qualification at level 7, including advanced physical assessment and consultation skills and non-medical prescribing. A significant post-qualification experience (minimum 4 years) in a relevant clinical field is also essential.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess possession of an MSc in Advanced Practice or recognised equivalent by HEE Centre Advancing Practice, Non-Medical Prescribing (v300), and significant post-qualification experience in a relevant clinical field.
