Job Details

The Design Manager will be responsible for coordinating the design elements and interfaces of specific tasks or projects, dependent on size and complexity. They will fully understand and manage the design requirements of the tender/project, ensuring that the design is delivered in line with the programme requirements and is of a quality that reflects the budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Take ownership of 'design' related items within the tender bid process
  • Produce the front end design programme, for inclusion within the tender submission highlighting and explaining the key drivers and critical sub-contractors as necessary
  • Advise on the selection of specialist sub-contractors
  • Understand and provide solution where possible, against the status of 'strategic design' items within the tender document and in line with JSS procedures including: planning, building control, third party requirements, brand requirements etc.
  • Present key design aspects at the technical settlement including: summary statements on alternative design solutions considered, dismissed or accepted; summary of design consultants and team, technical challenges, design risk and opportunity, contingency allowances for design development, Design Fees, overview of strategic design teams
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate sufficient experience in the role of Design Manager in a construction environment
  • Degree in Construction or Design related
  • 5 years' experience working in the Civil Construction Industry
  • Demonstratable Temporary Works procedure, PTS, NR's Design Approval process, CDM for Designers, CDM Awareness experience
