Job Title: Nurture Teacher

Esland Bedford School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Nurture Teacher to lead our Year 7 Nurture provision. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning and delivering a targeted curriculum for our most vulnerable pupils who require additional support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a nurturing environment that promotes inclusivity and accessibility for all pupils, staff, parents, and carers.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure best practice teaching strategies that meet the diverse needs of our pupils.
  • Work closely with the Deputy Headteacher to ensure pupil progression throughout Year 7 and facilitate successful transitions to later years.
  • Support the Deputy Headteacher in ensuring that all pupils' needs are met as outlined in their Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).
  • Provide continuity of provision and care, guidance, and support for our most vulnerable learners across the curriculum.
  • Maintain up-to-date pupil records, including assessment data, safeguarding records, and effective liaison with parents and carers.
  • Contribute to the development of schemes of work and teaching/learning methods within the Nurture classroom.
  • Stay informed about national curriculum changes and ensure our Nurture curriculum remains relevant and aligned with the broader school curriculum.
  • Demonstrate unconditional positive regard for pupils, utilizing strategies like PACE and Zones of Regulation to support behavior management.
  • Maintain high expectations for pupils, helping them overcome barriers to learning.
  • Attend parents' meetings as necessary.
  • Assist with induction and transition processes for Year 6 students, potentially involving visits to current schools.
  • Ensure the Nurture class contributes to the school's overall ethos and embodies our core values.
  • Perform any reasonable tasks related to the post as requested.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Degree qualification or equivalent
  • In exceptional circumstances, applications may be considered for unqualified candidates with a proven track record of achieving strong outcomes and a willingness to pursue further training.
  • Demonstrable outcomes for pupils as a teacher
  • Experience as a KS2/KS3/KS4/KS5 teacher
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Expert understanding of inclusive pedagogy
  • Experience of assessment without levels, including tracking pupil progress
  • Knowledge and understanding of statutory assessment arrangements at KS2 to KS5
  • Knowledge and understanding of effective strategies to manage pupil behavior
  • Excellent knowledge of inclusion, including SEMH, EAL, bilingual learners, minority ethnic achievement, and equality (race, disability, and gender)
  • Excellent understanding of safeguarding, particularly the safety and welfare of vulnerable and disadvantaged pupils
  • The ability and willingness to teach a range of subjects
  • An understanding of a range of SEND needs, including SEMH and ASD
  • Contribution to the educational and social development of individual pupils
  • The ability to form effective relationships with young people, their families/carers, and external agencies
  • To ensure that young people's views and wishes are sought and acted upon where appropriate
  • To maintain an appropriate environment and provide necessary resources to meet the needs of all pupils
  • To liaise with other teachers and teaching assistants to ensure effective deployment of resources

Desirable:
  • Experience working in a specialist provision, either a special school or an additionally resourced provision within a mainstream school
