Job Title: Head of Electrical Design and Grid Connections

Lower 48 BESS is seeking an experienced Power System Engineer to join our team as Head of Electrical Design and Grid Connections.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the electrical design function and developing our in-house grid targeting strategy. They will work closely with senior executives to contribute technical expertise and supervision across every phase of project advancement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and lead the Electrical Design Functionality for Lower 48 BESS
  • Formulate and evolve our in-house grid targeting strategy
  • Model and assess our current grid connections in terms of future curtailments and constraints
  • Oversee all grid development processes
  • Serve as the primary contact for all network utilities
  • Manage ICP tender and selection processes
  • Collaborate with the team to assess grid suitability for early-stage projects
  • Establish and maintain relationships with leading ICPs
  • Provide grid/connection technical support during asset construction
  • Develop and manage in-house grid technical standards and tools
  • Conduct technical due diligence on grid and connection aspects for project acquisitions and disposals
Requirements:
  • Over 8 years of experience in working with Utilities or Network Operators
  • Profound understanding of grid connection policies and regulations
  • Well-established in the electrical network sector
  • Strong connections to key industry players
  • Familiarity with ICP design and construction
  • Electrical Engineering or similar university degree
  • Background in technical consulting, a network utility, or project development
  • Previous experience conducting due diligence for potential project acquisitions
  • Self-starter comfortable working within a small and agile team
  • High technical competence, specifically as a power engineer
  • Excellent reporting and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with external parties
