Job Title: Senior Optical Engineer

Location: Torquay, Devon

Salary: Competitive Salary DOE

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Optical Engineer to lead the development of innovative fibre-optic products for various market segments, including industrial, aerospace & defense, and bio-photonics.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and develop advanced fibre-optic and photonic components and devices using state-of-the-art design tools and experimental testing.

2. Enhance and develop fused fibre-optic coupler products.

3. Contribute to the product development strategy to meet business growth objectives.

4. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including mechanical and electronic design engineers, product engineers, and technicians.

5. Engage in prototype builds, including operating fusion rigs, fibre-optic splicing, mechanical/electrical assembly, and opto-electronic testing.

6. Develop and execute test plans for functional and environmental qualification of components for high-reliability applications.

7. Support design modifications and engineering changes to existing products.

8. Present findings clearly to both internal teams and external customers.

Requirements:

* Strong understanding of optical fibres and their properties, including experience with fusion and tapering methods.

* Proven track record of leading fibre-optic product development.

* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
