We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Registered Nurse to join our team in the Short Stay Surgical Unit at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Key Responsibilities- Admit day surgery and inpatients, completing a comprehensive assessment to ensure safe and effective care.
- Provide high-quality care to post-operative patients undergoing various surgical procedures, demonstrating expertise in symptom control and clinical decision-making.
- Safely discharge patients, ensuring they meet all day surgery criteria and have a clear understanding of their post-operative care.
- Manage symptom control post-surgery, including post-operative pain and nausea, and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure accurate information dissemination.
- Maintain patient dignity and respect, and equality and diversity as per Trust Policies.
- Act as a mentor to junior staff, creating a positive learning culture by supporting skill acquisition and competency development.
- Participate in local audits and contribute to the development of the unit.
- NMC Registered Nurse working in the UK.
- Degree or equivalent in Nursing.
- Mentorship course - MSPP/Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor course and updates.
- Experience as a Band 5 working in a Day Surgery, Surgical or Recovery environment.
- Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
- Evidence of further education and training and ongoing learning.
- Experience working with and supporting students and less experienced staff.
- Good level of clinical skills, including phlebotomy, cannulation, taking ECGs, medication administration.
- Knowledge of Day Surgery principles and Perioperative practice.
- Awareness of and demonstrates Trust values and acceptable standards of behaviour.
- Ability to interpret and adhere to department and Trust policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines.
- Flexible and willingness to carry out job roles and responsibilities.
- Ability to role model the trust's values and uphold high standards of behaviour expected of a registered Nurse and trust employee.
- Ability to work under pressure and seek help when required.
- Ability to prioritise and organise workload.
