This is an exceptional opportunity to join our pioneering Smart Energy and Sustainability team, where you will play a key role in shaping the UK's response to the climate emergency.

About the Role

We are seeking an ambitious and experienced Senior Sustainability Consultant to lead and grow our BREEAM services and team locally, based in our city centre office in Newcastle. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality projects, managing your workload, and developing targets for sustainability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of BREEAM projects, with support from a senior member of the team.
  • Participate in Part L, Energy Strategies, and LCA assessment.
  • Manage your own workload to meet project deadlines.
  • Review project details and develop targets for sustainability.
  • Review documentation provided by project teams, assess this against the project's targets, and provide feedback or follow-up.
  • Set up and maintain projects via the project evidence tracker.
  • Communicate sustainability requirements to internal and external team members.
  • Produce reports providing advice and guidance to clients and project teams.
  • Attend site visits to review progress against sustainability targets.
  • Review the performance of designated projects on a monthly basis and update the team's project tracker with progress information.
  • Assist in preparing bids and proposals for new work.
  • Engage with skills networks to exchange best practices and processes.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings.
  • Complete relevant training to become certified as a BREEAM assessor/AP.
Requirements
  • Ambitious, self-motivated, and enthusiastic.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the construction industry and built environment.
  • Ability to manage projects.
  • Client relationship management skills.
  • Proven track record of project delivery.
  • Part L modelling experience (TAS preferable) and LCA experience (Oneclick preferable).
  • Experience developing and managing others (Principal/Associate grades only).
  • Emerging business development and sales skills.
  • Strong business development experience (Associate grade only).
Desirable Attributes
  • Working knowledge of building performance modelling techniques and experience with software such as IES Virtual Environment, Spacemaker AI, etc.
  • Knowledge of or technical ability in energy/renewables/built environment/environmental science-related disciplines.
  • An ability to apply analytical skills across a range of scales, i.e., buildings, campuses, cities.
  • Experience in presenting analytical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Knowledge of planning, environmental impact assessments, or wider sustainability policy and legislation.
  • Understanding of structural engineering, architectural design, and materials specification and supply chains.
  • Experience in producing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).
  • Qualifications within PAS 2050/2060/2080 standards.
  • Experience in using CIBSE TM65 embodied carbon calculation methodology.
  • Capability to lead a team and develop new products in an ever-expanding market.
  • Graphic design capabilities, including the ability to use software packages such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and BlueBeam.
  • Ability to develop digital toolkits for use internally and by clients.
  • Hold a relevant degree, BEng (Hons), or BSc (Hons), or equivalent/higher.
  • Qualified BREEAM Assessor.
  • Background in building physics/environmental design, environmental science, or sustainability-related disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of building performance modelling techniques.
  • Knowledge of planning, environmental impact assessments, or wider sustainability legislation.
  • Knowledge of or technical ability in building services-related disciplines.
