Job Title:

Principal Engineer - Nuclear Safety Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Engineer to join our Site Safety team as a Nuclear Safety Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for deterministic nuclear safety assessment, authoring of nuclear safety cases, and ALARP assessments of new and legacy facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct deterministic nuclear safety assessments for the build and commission of Dreadnought and future class submarines
  • Author nuclear safety cases, including results of deterministic and probabilistic analyses
  • Perform ALARP assessments of new and legacy facilities and equipment
  • Define, agree, and implement safety case requirements
  • Manage internal and external interfaces, including Engineering Authorities, Human Factors, and regulatory bodies
Requirements:
  • Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline (engineering or physical sciences)
  • Previous experience in safety analysis and safety case production for high-hazard industries
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Chartered engineer (or actively working toward this) desirable
  • Previous experience working for a nuclear site and/or on the submarine programme
  • Relevant nuclear and/or safety degree programmes at Heriot-Watt, Aberdeen, Cranfield, Strathclyde, Manchester, Liverpool, or Birmingham
