Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute Full time

Project Overview

Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute is seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our interdisciplinary laboratory and contribute to our understanding of piRNA-guided transposon silencing. As a researcher in this project, you will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge topic in chromatin biology and RNA research, using a combination of biochemical, proteomic, imaging, genomics, and computational approaches.

Research Objectives

The primary objective of this project is to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying piRNA-guided transposon silencing, using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model. You will exploit tissue culture and in vivo models to study piRNA-guided transposon control, and carry out various biochemical, proteomic, imaging, genomics, and computational approaches to achieve this goal.

Methodologies

You will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and expertise in our Core Facilities, and will be expected to develop and implement novel methodologies to study piRNA-guided transposon silencing. This will involve working closely with our team of researchers and technicians to design and execute experiments, and to analyze and interpret data.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled researcher with a strong background in biochemistry, genetics, and/or molecular biology. You should have excellent laboratory skills, a keen interest in transposons, small RNAs, or chromatin biology, and a reasonable amount of practical research experience. Familiarity with imaging approaches, genomics methods, or expertise with the Drosophila model would be beneficial but are not strictly required.

Funding

This four-year studentship is funded by Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute and includes full funding for University fees and a stipend of £21,000 per annum for four years.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from both UK and overseas students. Applicants should hold or expect to gain a First/Upper Second Class degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject from any recognised university worldwide. Applicants with relevant research experience, gained through Master¿s study or while working in a laboratory, are strongly encouraged to apply.
