Job Title: Estimator

Location: Colchester

Salary: Up to £65K

A leading manufacturer of architectural feature cladding, facade products, high quality illuminated displays and custom signs to the transport, residential, commercial and institutional sectors. They cover a range of specialist markets including illuminated and acoustic perforated cladding, retail display, corporate signage, outdoor advertising and feature lighting, to an extensive portfolio of blue-chip clients.

Job Purpose

To support the sales function with timely accurate assessments of costs to provide clients or potential clients with our products. To consider all pertinent information about each project to determine how much it would cost to meet the clients' needs. To support the development and growth of the architectural metalwork business.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Completion of full tender process; constructing bespoke quotations, estimations and BoQs utilising drawings, specifications and site surveying.
  2. Carry out preliminary checks to legal documents (tenders/contracts/agreements).
  3. Attend meetings when necessary and document accordingly.
  4. Identify the project characteristics, benefits and areas of risk at an early stage.
  5. Negotiation with clients.
  6. Achieve optimum conversion rates and strive to achieve desired financial margins.
  7. Establish, develop and maintain new and existing professional relationships.
  8. Obtain and negotiate prices with suppliers and subcontractors.
  9. Completing material take offs.
  10. Mark up drawings with clear descriptions of scope and work breakdown structure using specification extracts for clarity and to avoid scope creep.
  11. Monitor project costings.
  12. Ensuring administrative tasks are actioned and record keeping is up to date.
  13. Work closely with management to ensure an efficient and effective execution of each project.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Demonstrable estimating experience.
  • Bespoke manufacturer background.
  • IT literate (MS Office), with the ability to read technical drawings in PDF and CAD format.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent and timely communication skills.
  • Excellent numerical and mathematical skills.
