The Role of a Boilerplant Attendant

The Boilerplant Attendant plays a critical role in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Boiler Plant at our Rotherham site. This includes monitoring and controlling the boiler plant to ensure efficient and safe operation, as well as performing routine maintenance and repairs to prevent breakdowns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control the boiler plant to ensure efficient and safe operation
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs to prevent breakdowns
  • Work closely with the Works Services Fitters and Liaison with Section Engineers to carry out repairs and improvement work
  • Supervise deliveries of Boiler Plant chemicals and other commodities, ensuring delivery procedures are adhered to
  • Supervise and monitor the activities of specialist Contractors and others, ensuring they are working safely and to programme
  • Provide routine maintenance and first line breakdown repairs, including basic mechanical and pipefitting repairs, modification and improvements
  • Be in continuous contact with Production units to ensure steam is generated to match demand for a number of batch processes and that steam plant is available as required

Requirements of the Boilerplant Attendant

  • Be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised, with a strong sense of responsibility for determining priorities and ensuring continuity of services
  • Be able to monitor alarms from outside plant and utilities and take appropriate action
  • Be flexible and able to apply urgency, reason and logic to breakdowns and incidents that occur
  • Have a good understanding of the operation of boilers and water plant, ideally with a qualification such as the Boiler Operation Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) / Certified Industrial Boiler Operator (CertIBO)
  • Be familiar with basic computer applications, with training provided as needed

Working Pattern

This role is 6am-6pm, 12 hour days, with a requirement to work weekends and Bank holidays to ensure full cover is maintained.
