About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Semi-skilled Mechanic to join our Fleet Services team at Leicestershire County Council. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for servicing and repairing vehicles and plant in a safe, efficient, and economic manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Drive and manoeuvre driven plant as necessary, recovering defective or damaged vehicles, carrying out technical checks and diagnostic tests.
  • Observe, recognise, and report on vehicles or systems defects, assessing and recording the repair.
  • Carry out routine inspections, servicing vehicles according to schedules, and utilising specialist services as required.
  • Examine vehicles, reporting on condition, roadworthiness, and safety.
  • Interpret and implement technical service instruction data and manufacturers' modifications.
  • Maintain a personal tool kit, special tools, and equipment in good condition.
Requirements
  • NVQ level 2-3 qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent level of relevant experience.
  • Experience of working in a fleet workshop or garage and of all aspects of vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of specification for varying types of vehicle and ability to diagnose mechanical faults.
  • Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation and ability to apply these requirements to a working environment.
  • Technical competencies in vehicle construction & design, understanding basic mechanical engineering principles, and identifying suitable materials and tools.
  • Ability to cope with fluctuating workloads and deadlines, producing work to specified time, cost, and quality targets.
