Role Overview

As a Cardiac Support Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of cardiac surgery patients at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. You will work closely with our experienced team to deliver high-quality care and contribute to the development of our department.

Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Management: Prepare and maintain equipment and disposable items for cardiopulmonary bypass procedures, ensuring all necessary items are available and functioning properly.
  • Patient Care: Operate the heart-lung machine and auxiliary equipment, maintaining patient physiological parameters during cardiopulmonary bypass. Take corrective action as needed to address changing conditions.
  • Procedure Support: Prepare equipment and disposables for autologous blood salvage procedures, both intra and post-operatively, for cardiac and other surgical specialties.
  • Diagnostics: Undertake and interpret blood gas analysis, thromboelastography testing, including platelet mapping and fibrinogen analysis when necessary.
  • Safety Measures: Set up and operate relevant monitoring and safety devices, ensuring patient safety at all times.
  • Procedure Expertise: Prepare and operate equipment and disposables for vacuum-assisted venous drainage and carbon dioxide flushing of the operative field.
  • Teamwork: Participate in research and development projects, assisting in their initiation and control. Conduct informal in-service and external formal educational sessions with other perfusionists, nursing, and medical staff as required.
Requirements:
  • Education: Full UK Registration CCPS (Clinical Certificates in Perfusion Sciences)
  • Experience: Experience in independent working and fulfilling a 24/7 on-call rota.
Salary and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary of £55,000 - £70,000 per annum, depending on experience. We also provide flexible working arrangements, commitment to equality of opportunity, and support for continuous professional development.
