Illicit Finance Governance Adviser

Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office

Salary: £58,000 (London) £53,000 (East Kilbride)

Contract: Full time

Location: London or East Kilbride (future relocation to central Glasgow)

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office is a global leader in diplomatic, development, and consular work. Our team of 17,000 staff operates in 281 offices worldwide, with UK-based staff working in London, East Kilbride, and Milton Keynes.

Your Role

We seek a skilled professional to join our team and contribute to the UK's International Centre of Expertise on Illicit Finance (ICE). As a key member of the ICE team, you will help drive UK leadership in international efforts to combat illicit finance.

Illicit finance is a complex and evolving threat that undermines international development and fuels authoritarian regimes. Your expertise will help the UK use its diplomatic, programmatic, and policy levers to target illicit finance and create systemic change.

Responsibilities

  1. Lead research and analysis of global illicit finance trends using a political economy lens.
  2. Identify links and opportunities between illicit finance and cross-cutting UK agendas, such as sanctions evasion and organised crime.
  3. Promote UK thought leadership by addressing gaps in the international community's understanding and response to illicit finance.
  4. Establish relationships with civil society, academia, and multilateral organisations to inform and challenge HMG.
  5. Provide technical governance and political economy insight to enhance ICE's offer and help HMG achieve impact.

Requirements

You will be an expert in illicit finance and/or anti-corruption, with a strong interest in furthering your understanding of priority issues for the UK. You will have proven research and analysis skills, including the ability to source and evaluate large volumes of information to identify and solve problems.

Your excellent written and verbal communication skills will allow you to express complex ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively to a wide range of audiences inside and outside government.
