About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior PHP Developer to join our team at Sky UK. As a key member of our Group Digital Platforms team, you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining our web applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their careers.

  • Conduct regular 1-to-1 meetings and annual performance reviews to ensure team members are meeting their goals and objectives.

  • Apply modern software design principles to ensure our applications are scalable, maintainable, and efficient.

  • Participate in key decision-making processes to guide the team towards innovative and effective solutions.

  • Develop and maintain coding standards and methodologies to ensure high-quality, testable code.

  • Collaborate with senior technical staff to advocate for and advance modern software development processes.

  • Contribute to the Sky software engineering community, actively participating in development meetings, guilds, and wider Sky initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of PHP, JavaScript, Python, or similar programming languages.

  • Experience using Test-Driven Development (TDD) to deliver high-quality, enterprise-level code.

  • Knowledge of continuous delivery approaches, including containerization and cloud services (e.g., Cloudfoundry, GCP, Heroku, AWS, Azure).

  • Experience with monitoring, observability, automated CI/CD pipelines, API, GraphQL, and backend integrations.

  • Comfortable with Agile principles, including ceremonies, estimating, and planning.
