Job Title: Portfolio Performance Strategist

We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Performance Strategist to join our team at Arbuthnot Latham.

Estimated Salary: £80,000 - £110,000 per annum.

About the Role

The Portfolio Performance Strategist is responsible for leading the ongoing development of portfolio performance strategies and methodologies. This involves recommending enhancements if required, acting as the lead for portfolio performance across the business, and supporting the Investment Committee in achieving competitive performance of our discretionary portfolios over the long-term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed qualitative and quantitative assessments of funds under consideration (ETFs, long only funds, and alternative) to assist the investment committee in selecting the appropriate fund.
  • Develop structured portfolio performance processes that align with the wider investment philosophy at Arbuthnot.
  • Maintain, enhance, and develop ALIM's portfolio performance screens with a focus on wider market and macro variables that drive fund performance.
  • Organise and manage each portfolio performance POD's workflow, collaborating closely with the Asset Pods to ensure ongoing portfolio monitoring, conducting regular interviews with fund managers, and driving portfolio performance projects to timely completion.
  • Closely collaborate with the investment research team to ensure wider macro-economic and market insights are incorporated into portfolio performance monitoring and assessment.
  • Originate investment ideas through the portfolio performance process to propose to the Investment Committee.
  • Complete internal portfolio due diligence questionnaires and oversee funds to confirm their continued inclusion in portfolios.
  • Ensure adherence to due diligence standards and regulatory requirements for all invested funds, maintaining up-to-date MI documentation for the Investment Committee and compliance review.
  • Attend IC meetings up to the Tactical Asset Allocation Level to act as the informational conduit to the Investment Committee for portfolio performance considerations.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects as determined by the Head of Research.
  • Interact with key stakeholders on the investment committee and make recommendations based on your research.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree with progress towards or achievement of finance-related professional qualification such as CAIA or CFA.
  • Demonstrable experience in portfolio performance covering equity, fixed income, or alternative funds.
  • Quantitative mindset – comfortable running portfolio performance screens and quantitative analysis on existing/potential investments.
  • Qualitative portfolio performance research – strong experience in qualitative assessment of active fund managers.
  • Organisation - able to organise and drive portfolio project work.
  • Analytical - ability to identify the drivers of investment performance and manager alpha.
  • Self-starter – willing to take initiative on tasks, analysis, and lead projects.
