Senior Financial Accountant

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Financial Accountant to join our team at the College of the Holy Cross. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for providing expert accounting and tax services, with a focus on strengthening policies, procedures, and internal controls. You will also play a lead role in the month-end closing process, ensuring accurate and timely recording of gift activity, and providing guidance to the Associate Controller on various financial processing functions.
Key Responsibilities- Review and post daily gift feeds to the general ledger, reconciling to Advancement records and resolving discrepancies.
- Serve as a liaison between the Office of Advancement and the Finance division, ensuring compliance with accounting standards for gift recording.
- Prepare and reconcile contributions receivable, and record allowances for uncollectible pledges and pledge discounts.
- Set up grant accounting and budgetary control in the general ledger for new grants.
- Oversee grants for post-award financial compliance, providing guidance and assistance to Principle Investigators on budgetary and expenditure issues.
- Review and reconcile gift clearing accounts, and record and reconcile investments.
- Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of transactions and general ledger activity.
- Cross-train with and provide backup support for other team members as assigned.
- Perform a major role in the preparation of annual financial statements and benefit plan audits.
- Assist in preparing annual tax returns.
- Assist in developing and documenting accounting policies and procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Accounting, with a minimum of 3-5 years' progressive responsibility in accounting positions, preferably in a higher education environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting standards (GAAP) and federal and state regulations applicable to a higher education institution.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience, with a focus on quality customer service and team leadership and mentoring skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, with experience using other Microsoft applications.
