About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Multi Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering Team at Avara Foods. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in optimizing machinery output and product quality, minimizing plant downtime, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and breakdown/reactive maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Ensure engineering maintenance is carried out in line with the current schedule and effective and efficient corrective action is taken.
  • Quick and effective response to breakdowns, identifying root cause and suggesting possible improvements to prevent further breakdowns.
  • Communicate unscheduled breakdowns to management and work with the operations department to minimize plant disruption.
  • Record and identify spare parts used through CMMS and report to the Engineering Manager.
  • Follow good engineering standards and good hygiene practice for the department across the whole site.
  • Ensure maintenance and engineering practices are audit compliant.
  • Ensure all activities are carried out within company and legislative health and safety and environmental guidelines, reporting any issues.
  • Ensure compliance through regular process weigher and liquid meter calibrations (Weights and Measures Act).
  • Proficient in engineering operations while working in hazardous environments (Confined Space Entry, Hot working in confined spaces, Hot working, WAH).
  • Participate in mechanical projects and installations – elevators, conveyors, machine installs, machine refurbishment.
  • Participate in electrical projects and installations – panel manufacture and installation, PLC upgrades, PAT testing, thermographic surveying.
  • Efficient operations of effluent plant systems ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Understand the operations of fire suppression systems – Fire Trace, Sprinkler system, Hydrant system.
  • Demonstrate understanding of environmental impacts – DSEAR, Dust controls and Explosion mitigation.

Requirements:

  • Time served Multi-skilled Apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Proactive and dynamic approach to safety.
  • Good diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure while having a high attention to detail.
  • Flexibility with a positive attitude and the ability to work well within a small team.
  • Food manufacture experience desirable.
  • IEE 17th or 18th Edition desirable.
  • PLC experience desirable.
  • Pneumatic and Hydraulic experience desirable.
  • Boiler Operator Accreditation Scheme (BOAS) certification desirable.
