Firmware Engineer

MERITUS Talent is partnering with a leading aerospace and defence organization to recruit a Firmware Engineer for their Hampshire office.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Firmware Engineer to join our Modems and Software Defined Radio group in Portsmouth. As a key member of the team, you will report to the Engineering Manager and contribute to the development of a new product for the UK MOD.
To be successful in this role, you must be eligible for a UK Security Clearance.
Mandatory Skills:
- Strong understanding of Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
- Proficiency in VHDL encoding and Xilinx Vivado experience, particularly in block diagrams and non-project mode
- Expertise in tcl scripts for configuring and connecting IP and building projects in the Vivado environment
- Verilog and SystemVerilog skills
- Experience with Git for version control and Atlassian toolset (e.g. Jira, Confluence, BitBucket)
- Agile or Scrum working environment
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with Zynq Ultrascale RFSoCs and associated IP
- Knowledge of Makefile, Linux shell, and Jenkins Control scripts
- Experience with system and software modelling tools such as Enterprise Architect (SysML / UML)
- Python skills for test purposes
- Software Defined Radio (SDR) expertise
About You
To excel in this role, you will need to possess a strong background in firmware engineering, with a degree in a relevant field (e.g. HND or Bachelor of Engineering) and at least 5 years of professional experience. Familiarity with agile methodologies and the ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team are also essential. A background knowledge or interest in satellite communication systems or Modem technology is desirable.
