About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the Women's Engineering Society. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for conducting methodical and structured investigations of faults reported in returned motors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Root Cause Analysis: Determine the root causes of reported faults using recognized analysis processes, such as 8D, Five Whys, and Fault Tree.
  • Team Collaboration: Engage with multidisciplinary teams during the definition and investigation phases of 8D processes.
  • Lessons Learned: Ensure lessons learned from investigations are documented and collated to inform product development.
  • Investigation Documentation: Document investigations in a timely manner to track and report status and progress.
  • Test and Trial Planning: Conceive, plan, oversee, and execute tests and trials to establish root causes of reported faults.
  • Investigation Strategy: Set out clear investigation strategies to guide Technician colleagues in their execution.
  • Engineering Reports: Document investigations accurately and thoroughly to produce appropriate engineering reports.
  • Team Supervision: Supervise and assist the career development of Fault Analysis Engineer direct reports.
  • Team Guidance: Provide guidance and support to Fault Analysis Engineers within the team.
Requirements:
  • Relevant Qualification: Hold a relevant engineering qualification, such as mechanical or electrical.
  • Experience: Have experience in fault or failure investigation, or test or development in a similar environment.
  • Practical Experience: Have practical experience in the use and application of electric or other rotational machines.
  • Problem-Solving: Evidence a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and the ability to apply knowledge to real-world situations.
  • Communication: Be able to communicate the progress and results of investigations effectively.
  • FMEA and 8D: Be familiar with FMEA and 8D processes and supporting techniques.
  • Engineering Materials: Have working knowledge and understanding of the properties of a range of engineering materials and their applications.
  • Flexibility: Demonstrate a flexible approach and the ability to succeed in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
  • Communication Skills: Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enquiring Mind: Have an enquiring and questioning mind, asking 'why?' and 'what if?'.
  • Practical Approach: Demonstrate a practical, hands-on approach when required and appropriate.
  • Travel: Be willing to travel as required.
