About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to join our growing team at SYSTRA. As a key member of our infrastructure design team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality highway projects that meet the needs of our clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the Infrastructure Director for the South of England and Associate Director in the delivery of projects
  • Win and deliver projects safely, efficiently, and effectively
  • Work closely with private and public sector clients of all types and across all sectors locally and regionally
  • Develop and supervise junior engineers in the team
  • Responsible for all stages of highway designs (adoptable or non-adoptable) ensuring compliance with appropriate standards
  • Liaise with project team to ensure designs are fully coordinated
  • Prepare and price scope/briefs, proposals, and deliverables for new projects
  • Take commercial responsibility for projects
  • Ensure successful project delivery to time, cost, quality, and other contractual requirements
Requirements
  • At least 7 years' experience in the highways sector
  • Demonstrated civil engineering experience within a consultancy environment
  • Good knowledge and experience of delivering highway and drainage design; S278/38 Approval process
  • Experience of highway technical design on major and minor projects
  • Good knowledge of standard engineering practices and a demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM
  • Must be IT literate with excellent knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil3D and other civil engineering packages
  • Experience of project management with a good understanding and responsibility of financial and commercial aspects of projects
  • Ability to determine appropriate solutions with innovation and value
  • Excellent communications skills to be capable of communicating effectively with colleagues and clients
  • Experience in line managing and providing technical oversight for delivery teams
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of design teams and project stakeholders
