Medical Oncology Specialist

This post holder will be working as part of the Oncology middle grade team based at Cheltenham General Hospital and also providing care to patients at Hereford County Hospital. This post will focus on patients with lung and lower gastrointestinal cancers. The post will include supervising and prescribing systemic treatment, radiotherapy planning, and supervising patients receiving radiotherapy. There will be opportunity to see new patients and those on follow up. The majority of the post will cover outpatients; however, there will also be opportunity for inpatient work. There will be opportunity to train in practical procedures including pleural and ascitic drainage. There will be experience of clinical trials.
This is an exciting opportunity to join an excellent regional cancer centre. The post holder will be working with our team of 17 Clinical and Medical Consultant Oncologists, 3 Specialist Doctors, 4 SAS doctors, Junior and Senior Clinical Fellows, and 10 Registrars. It will provide excellent Oncology experience and plentiful educational opportunities for the post-holder. Candidates should be eligible for registration with the GMC. Part 1 FRCR is essential and full FRCR is desirable. Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years' experience in Oncology.
Purpose of the Post and General Responsibilities
We are looking to appoint a suitably experienced specialty doctor to join our committed and supportive team. This post holder will be working as part of the Oncology middle grade team based at Cheltenham General Hospital and also travelling to Hereford County Hospital 1 day a week. This post focuses on providing care to patients with lung and lower gastrointestinal cancers. The post will include supervising and prescribing systemic treatment, radiotherapy planning, seeing new patients and those on follow up. The majority of the post will cover outpatients.

- Depending on the interests of the successful applicant, support will be given to pursue a Quality Improvement project.
- The post holder will join a highly supportive team including 3 Specialist Doctors, 4 SAS doctors, Junior and Senior Clinical Fellows, and 10 Registrars.
- This is not a training post, but clinical experience and supervision will be similar to SpRs.
- There is an active clinical research programme.
Key Responsibilities
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:
- To support the provision of a first-class clinical service.
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies.
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's services plans.
Location
The principal place of work for this post is Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) and the post holder will also be required to attend Hereford County Hospital once a week. Other work locations, including off-site working, may be agreed in the post-holder's Job Plan where appropriate, e.g. for supporting professional activities and some direct clinical care such as audit. The post-holder will generally be expected to undertake their Programmed Activities at the principal place of work or other locations agreed in the Job Plan. You may be required to work at any site within the Trust.
