Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced nurse to lead our anticoagulation service at University Hospitals Birmingham. As a Band 8a Anticoagulation Services Lead Nurse, you will be responsible for managing a team of clinical nurse specialists and consultants, providing clinical expertise, and supporting patient pathways.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have extensive post-registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Band 7 or above, with a proven track record of delivering change management and developing educational programs. They will also have experience in service development, working in a multi-disciplinary and cross-agency environment, and managing resources and budgets.

Person Specification

  • Registered Adult/Child Nurse on the NMC Register
  • Professional knowledge acquired through postgraduate degree/supplemented by specialist training, experience, and short courses to Masters level equivalent
  • Non-Medical Prescribing Course or willingness to undertake where this is a requirement of the role
  • Extensive post-registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Band 7 or above in a defined or associated specialty
  • Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/competence
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to specialty
  • Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programs and teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
  • Experience in service development
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross-agency work environment
  • Experience of patient service user
  • Experience of resource and budgetary management
  • Experience of leading on the writing/updating of organisational Policy/Procedure/Guidelines associated with the specialty/field
  • Can demonstrate expert nursing knowledge with an ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate specialist care delivered to patients and give advice and information to patients/relatives/care staff
  • Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context relating to the specialty and can translate this into local practice reflected in organisational policy/procedure and service delivery
  • Has understanding/experience of the principles of Safeguarding
  • Knowledge of corporate and clinical governance
