About the Role:

As a Shift Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of critical systems in a highly regulated environment. This includes managing HVAC, electrical, high voltage, mechanical, and building management systems (BMS).

  1. Leadership Responsibilities: Lead and supervise a team of engineers, ensuring that planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks are completed to a high standard.
  2. Building Shutdowns: Coordinate and oversee shutdown procedures for buildings, ensuring minimal downtime and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  3. System Monitoring: Monitor and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) and Power Monitoring Systems (PMS), responding promptly to any alarms or issues.
  4. Contractor Management: Coordinate and oversee third-party contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and building standards.
  5. Documentation and Training: Maintain accurate logs and records of all maintenance activities, equipment status, and incidents during the shift, and assist in training new engineers and supporting team development.

Key Requirements:

  • Certification: City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or relevant field)
  • Experience: Proven experience in critical building services, such as data centres, hospitals, or other 24/7 operational environments
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, generators, UPS systems, and mechanical plant
  • Regulations: Familiarity with 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (desirable for electrical bias roles)
  • Availability: Ability to work in a rotating shift pattern, including nights and weekends
