Job Title: Principal Engineer - Shock and Dynamics

As a Principal Engineer within the Shock and Dynamics department, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that structures and equipment meet naval shock requirements. Your expertise will be essential in setting requirements for sub-systems to guarantee overall boat requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set sub-system requirements to meet whole boat naval shock requirements
  • Manage verification and validation (V&V) evidence to ensure sub-systems meet shock requirements
  • Develop design justification documentation
  • Undertake structural assessments of structures and equipment subjected to naval shock load cases
  • Provide design guidance at design reviews with respect to naval shock load cases
  • Undertake peer review checking activities and develop junior engineers' preparation of business cases
  • Verify and sign engineering designs
  • Articulate and document subject expertise, approaches, and standards to extend business knowledge base
  • Provide technical direction to engineers
  • Support the development of individuals and teams to enhance skills and competencies
Requirements:
  • Detailed knowledge/understanding of assessments in support structures, structural seats/foundations, fasteners, and welds using finite element analysis, classical stress calculation techniques, and standard code formulae
  • Ability to articulate and present technical arguments clearly, logically, and simply
  • Represent the shock design function through all stages of the product life cycle
  • Provide specialist advice, active surveillance, and representation at project design reviews to ensure compliance with shock and dynamics design requirements
  • Facilitate and control technical interactions between industrial partners on matters of shock and dynamics design and qualification
