About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled Optics Process Development Engineer to join our team at Fives Landis Ltd. in the United Kingdom. As a key member of our engineering team, you'll be responsible for developing and testing high-precision special purpose machinery and test equipment at our Cranfield Precision site in Bedfordshire.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement process improvements for our range of precision component grinding machines.
  • Conduct machine pass-off and verification tests at Cranfield and customer sites.
  • Provide customer training and support for our grinding machines.
  • Liaise with project teams to deliver new machine build and R&D projects.
  • Visit customer sites to complete site reports, timesheets, and other documentation as required.

Requirements

  • Relevant engineering qualification in a mechanical or optical discipline.
  • Self-driven individual with a 'can-do' attitude.
  • Effective communicator and team player.
  • Ability to problem-solve and fault-find in a logical and methodical manner.
  • Proficient with basic software packages, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Specialist Skills

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret optical, mechanical component, and electrical drawings.
  • Understanding of optical metrology systems, ultra-precision machine tools, and on-board machine metrology systems.

Desirable Knowledge

  • Familiarity with precision optical manufacturing, optical lens systems, and optical metrology instruments.
